BWS Puzzle 32: Midi Themeless #14

Another midi-sized themeless puzzle with diagonal symmetry! This one is 11x11, and it all started with the diagonally crossing entries 38-Across and 9-Down. As I filled in the rest of the grid, I noticed a few chances to include some other entries that "fit" with those two seed entries (hah, seed!), so that's why I have somewhat contradictorily labeled this post with both the "themeless" and "mini themes" categories. Still, it's decidedly not a "themed puzzle", and I'm just pointing this out in case you notice the miniature theme and it helps you solve a clue or two.

I acknowledge there's an abundance of proper names in this puzzle, so that's why I'm labeling this Extra Hard, even though the rest of the clues are probably more medium-to-hardI'm sorry if some of those names get in the way of your solving, but please always feel free to use that Reveal button liberally! In fact, just the other day I inadvertently learned that hitting Ctrl+R (on a Windows keyboard) while you're in the PuzzleMe applet will reveal the current entry instead of refreshing the browser page like I thought it would. So, now you know, too.

Enjoy the solve, and share if you do! Constructive feedback in the comments is always welcome.

  1. Did fine on the left half, but had to reveal a bunch of names on the right :(

    1. I thought that might happen; sorry if that made it less fun for you! It's also why I mentioned the "reveal word" shortcut in the preamble before the puzzle.

And now I'm adding "make a themeless with NO proper nouns" to my constructor's to-do list :-)

Puzzle 92: Take a Break

Just a quick break from themelesses for this silly little puzzle, inspired by a phrase that came up in conversation. Warning: one theme entry has some vulgar language; not recommended for kids. Enjoy the solve, and share if you do! puz pdf fullscreen solution

Puzzle 91: Themeless #23

I was almost halfway through cluing (an early version of) this when I noticed a short word in the grid duping part of a longer entry. See if you can guess what used to be at 1-Across before I had to rework that section... (Also, does anyone else have trouble deciding whether a ?  is warranted for a clue? There are some obvious, punny cases, but other times it feels like it comes down to a matter of how easily I think a solver will spot a misdirection or some kind of unexpected usage, and that's hard to do sometimes.) Anyway, enjoy the solve, and share if you do! puz pdf fullscreen solution

Puzzle 87: Themeless #19

I'm pretty excited with how fresh and  clean this puzzle turned out, although you, dear solver, will be the true judge of that. Some tricky clues here, but also some fun and easy ones to help you crack in. Enjoy the solve, and share if you do! puz pdf fullscreen solution
